Visible Light

I really love it when I feel like God gives me a neat analogy.  Since I was a bio major most of my analogies are going to be science or nature related!

I was thinking about how God works in mysterious ways.  Sometimes we can see where He is leading us and other times it seems like we are walking blindfolded.  I would prefer to always see where I am going, who is speaking to me, and what I am doing, but sometimes God needs to test my faith. It occurred to me that God’s Kingdom and the way in which He works is like the light spectrum.

The light spectrum has so many useful wavelengths.  Notice in the picture that there is really only a very small portion of light that is visible to our eyes.  I think it is quite fitting that our human eyes are only capable of seeing so little.  I believe that God created the entire universe and therefore also the light spectrum.  Our finite minds can only comprehend so much of His greatness just like our eyes can only see so much of His spectrum.

Despite the minute amount of visible light, I find it glorious and breathtaking.  The vibrant Green leaves, the delicate lavenders, the deep rich red of a rose, even the darkest mud had depth in its brown or rust color.  There are so many variations of visible light that we can see that it can be overwhelming.  In fact there are 133 core crayola crayon colors. Not only do we admire and use the color in our lives for decorations and art, but it is a vital part of our ecosystem.  Photosynthesizing organisms use the visible light to produces glucose and Oxygen. 2 essential things our bodies need to survive. Our God is sovereign and He creates useful things that are spectacular.

I also think the mysterious ways in which God works are reflected here.  We don’t always see that some trials are for a good purpose.  Its hard to comprehend or even accept His peace in certain circumstances.  It can be mind boggling as to why we feel God prompting us to change our lifestyles, give our money away, or travel to another country.  We don’t always see the bigger God Picture of His kingdom and how it needs to work.  We just need to live a life of faith and trust that He knows whats best for us at all times, even if its not what we expected.

I do don’t think that you just haphazardly go through life doing what you like.  You must pray and seek His face.  There are so many scriptures that tell us to seek Him and His kingdom first.  I think when we align our hearts with His and our will with His that is when the vision becomes clear. We still may not see the bigger picture, but God will reveal what we need to see.

These are some really powerful and common scriptures, but I ask as you read them to pay closer attention to the highlighted sections.

Jeremiah 29:11-13

11″I know the plans I have for you,” announces the Lord. “I want you to enjoy success. I do not plan to harm you. I will give you hope for the years to come. 12Then you will call out to me. You will come and pray to me. And I will listen to you. 13When you look for me with all your heart, you will find me.

Philippians 4:6-9

6Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Proverbs 3:5&6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart

and lean not on your own understanding;
6in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
The scriptures are full of God’s promises to provide, protect, encourage, equip, and so much more.  I challenge you to look up those promises and read a few verses before and after.  I think most of them you will find are connected with seeking His face, asking for His wisdom, and trusting in Him alone.
